Clothing retailer closing 17 stores including one at The Linq

Los Angeles-based clothing seller Kitson is closing all of its 17 shops, including one at The Linq in Las Vegas.

In a statement, Gordon Bros. Group and Hilco Merchant Resources said they will manage the store closings. They said Kitson opened in 2000 and launched many local designers and brands.

The company will close its brick-and-mortar shops — 15 in California, one in Portland, Ore., and one in Las Vegas, at 3545 Las Vegas Blvd. South — and its online shop.

In the statement, Kitson Chief Restructuring Officer said his company is trying to arrange a deal to pass on the brand and was talking to "interested parties."

The Los Angeles Times noted that Kitson became famous partly for its clientele, who at its Hollywood stores included Paris Hilton, Lindsey Lohan and the Kardashians. Financial troubles had weighed down Kitson in recent years, the Times added; the company in 2013 received a $15-million credit line from Boston-based Salus Capital Partners to refinance debts and get working capital.

The statement didn't list a precise closing date for the stores. The retailer's website, shopkitson.com on Sunday said its entire stock was marked down 30 percent to 50 percent and that it was working to fulfill all orders placed before Dec. 6.
