Copper prices rise on news of import increase by China

Great Basin Transmission has chosen the contractor who will build its One Nevada transmission line, aka ON Line.

MYR Group, of Rolling Meadows, Ill., said it will build the $510 million, 235-mile line that Great Basin, an affiliate of electric developer LS Power, is building with local utility NV Energy.

The contract is worth $120 million, MYR Group officials said in a statement.

MYR Group specializes in electrical infrastructure. The company's subsidiary, Sturgeon Electric Co., will provide construction management, skilled labor and services including right-of-way clearing, environmental controls, foundation installation, and structure installation.

Heavy construction of ON Line is scheduled to begin in early 2011, with a projected completion date of November 2012. It will employ about 400 workers at peak construction.

Marco Martinez, chief financial officer of MYR Group, said the vast majority of workers the company plans to hire will come from the local labor pool, and will mostly be union workers. MYR Group may bring in project managers from other parts of the country, he added.
