Gilt Groupe Inc. on Monday became the second company within a month to set up shop in North Las Vegas.
Gilt Groupe said its distribution center at 4340 N. Lamb Blvd. near Craig Road will hire 75 employees over the next year. The facility will house merchandise from its West Coast suppliers, allowing the company to speed up the delivery of merchandise.
In May, Amonix Inc. completed its 214,000-square-foot facility and is manufacturing concentrated photovoltaic solar power systems. Seal Beach, Calif.-based Amonix employs 333 people in North Las Vegas.
"Last month it was a photovoltaic manufacturer choosing to locate in North Las Vegas," said Curtis Cummings, president and CEO of the North Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce. "This month it is the Gilt Groupe with 75 new jobs and the related multiplier impact on our economy."
Gilt Groupe has two other distribution centers in the United States, in Brooklyn, N.Y., and near Louisville, Ky.
"Having distribution centers in these key areas of the country allows us to receive merchandise much faster, and therefore the turnaround time for Gilt customers to receive their packages will be reduced," Christopher Halkyard, vice president of operations for New York-based Gilt Groupe, said in a statement.
Gilt Groupe has hired American Cargo Express to operate the center. For information on how to apply for jobs, go online to www.americancargoexpress.com.
"We are delighted that Gilt Groupe has selected Las Vegas for its West Coast distribution center," said Kristin McMillan, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Chamber of Commerce.
"The strong commitment of this innovative and growing company in choosing Southern Nevada is proof positive that Nevada continues to be an attractive place for business expansion and creation," she added.
McMillan said the facility would generate new jobs and help boost the region's economic recovery.
