Group forms The Economic Club of Las Vegas

A group of academics, politicians and businesses leaders have joined forces to create The Economic Club of Las Vegas, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization designed to provide an independent forum for economic and political debate.

The club’s strategic goal is to achieve national recognition by attracting well-known speakers to Las Vegas. The group was granted nonprofit status in March and will hold it first board meeting on Thursday.

The Economic Club of Las Vegas is the local chapter of the National Association for Business Economics. Reggie Burton, club secretary, said Monday in an email that the group is “confirming our first speaker for January.”

Jonathan Galaviz, managing director at Galaviz & Co., is president of the Las Vegas club. Among the 12 board members are Stephen Miller, professor of economics at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas; Kristin McMillian, president and CEO of the Las Vegas Metro Chamber of Commerce; and Nevada’s Lt. Gov. Brian Krolicki.

In a six-page profile, club officials expect the affiliation with NABE to provide access to nationally recognized speakers. Other clubs include the Detroit Economic Club and The Economic Club of Washington, D.C.
