Nevada’s top housing scams involve loan modifications

RENO -- The Nevada attorney general's office says loan modification scams are topping all cases of housing fraud in Nevada.

John Kelleher, chief deputy attorney general for Nevada, says Nevada's high rate of foreclosures has led to an influx of "fly-by-night" operations that take advantage of homeowners desperate to save their homes.

Kelleher says that of 113 cases of housing-related fraud being investigated by the AG's office in Clark County, loan modification scams account for 100. Clark County accounts for 90 percent of the office's cases.
