INTEL: Reason behind Fry’s delay, Hash House headed to the Rio

For those anticipating that Fry’s Electronics being built in Boca Park, here’s a little more on why the company has delayed.

“Fry’s very much wants to proceed with constructing and opening a new Fry’s retail store at Boca Park in Las Vegas (and, in other locations around the country in the future). However, we are waiting for the passage of the Marketplace Fairness Act by Congress, specifically the House of Representatives. This bill is currently stalled in the House,” spokesman Manuel Valerio said.

Fry’s will open the store once the Marketplace Fairness Act has passed both houses of Congress, is signed by the president and takes effect.

The Rio announced recently that it was closing the São Paulo Café and replacing the restaurant with the popular Hash House a Go Go. The eatery, well known for its “twisted farm food,” is expected to open early next year.

The addition of Hash House A Go Go to the Rio’s lineup was well-received by the World Series of Poker community. The annual six-week poker event takes over the Rio’s convention area from May through July, and hungry poker players and fans always are seeking dining options.

The news sent poker players all aflutter on Twitter. “Dreams do come true,” tweeted @Spankky1, while poker journalist and player John Mehaffey tweeted, “Good use of dead space.”

Poker player @nakedcowboy summed up the feelings of players. “Going to make for some sleepy folks after dinner breaks. ‘I’ll have the 2,000 calorie nap please.’ ”

Hash House is known for its signature dishes, including Sage Fried Chicken, HH Famous Roasted Chicken Pot Pie, Crispy Indiana Style Hand-Hammered Pork Tenderloin Sandwich and the Sage Fried Chicken Benedict.

As it gets closer, Las Vegas Market keeps growing.

The Winter 2014 Las Vegas Market will feature more than 325 gift, home décor and furniture suppliers, including nearly 90 new-to-market exhibitors, across 105,000 square feet of temporary space in Buildings B and C. The temporary exhibits represent a portion of the nearly 5 million square feet of space within the three buildings that comprise the Las Vegas Market, which is scheduled from Jan. 26-30 at the World Market Center.

The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority has a new partner.

The travel board signed with nSight travel intelligence, an aggregator of global travel search and booking data, to receive information about online travel consumer behavior from around the world. The company also works with Visit Florida and Visit Philadelphia.

Retail chain Kirkland’s has expanded its reach in Las Vegas.

The home décor and gifts retailer recently opened a new store at Silverado Ranch Plaza, 9893 South Eastern Ave., Suite F-02. The newest shop will employ 15 to 18 people and is one of 325 Kirkland’s stores throughout the country that offer a selection of decorative items, gifts and seasonal merchandise.

“We’re excited to open another store in the Las Vegas community,” said Michelle Graul, senior vice president of stores and human resources for Kirkland’s.

By the end of 2013, New York City might have a new record for visitation.

The Big Apple’s tourism board, NYC &Company, is expecting a record 54.3 million visitors this year, an increase of nearly 20 million annual tourists from 2002. By the end of this year, visitors to New York City will have generated $58.7 billion in overall economic impact and $39.4 billion in direct spending, while jobs in the leisure and hospitality sector are anticipated to reach a monthly average of more than 370,000 by year’s end.

Las Vegas visitation is expected to reach about 40 million this year, which is mostly on par with last year’s numbers.
