JW Marriott owner to pay $155,000 to settle sexual-harassment claim

Hotspur Resorts Nevada Ltd., which owns the JW Marriott resort in Summerlin, has agreed to pay $155,000 to settle a sexual harassment case dating back nearly a decade.

According to a consent decree that ended a lawsuit in U.S. District Court on Wednesday, the payment will go to three women who worked at the J.C. Wooloughan's Irish pub. It covered the actions of a male co-worker, who was later promoted to a supervisor, from 2003 to 2007. Hotel attorneys said in court papers that he was fired once his conduct came to light. The case was filed by the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in 2010.

Hotspur said it not only terminated the supervisor but instituted training and notification procedures to deter sexual harassment prior to the case. However, the commission, as part of the settlement, included a provision that Hotspur would revise its policy and agree to three years of monitoring.
