Las Vegas concrete company agrees to $300,000 fine
A Las Vegas-based concrete company has agreed pay a fine of more than $300,000 after federal investigators found that it disregarded overtime rates for two years.
Concrete Services Inc. was fined $145,652 for unpaid overtime wages, and agreed to pay the same amount in liquidated damages to more than 100 workers, according to the U.S. Department of Labor. The company also agreed to pay another $4,434 in minimum wages to 15 employees.
The company, which changed its name to Colvin Construction LLC a year ago, specializes in pouring concrete foundations for new homes.
A woman who answered the company’s phone said no one was available to comment on the fine.
Investigators with the Labor Department’s Wage and Hour Division discovered that for a two-year stretch starting in November 2011, Concrete Services paid field workers on a “piece rate” and disregarded the Fair Labor Standards Act overtime rates for those who worked more than 40 hours a week.
