Las Vegas native tapped as America First Credit Union branch manager

As America First Credit Union celebrated the grand opening of its newest Las Vegas location at 6090 S. Durango Drive on Aug. 15, the 75-year-old financial institution also welcomed Matthew Dice as branch manager.

Dice, a Las Vegas native, began as a teller with the Riverdale, Utah-based America First Credit Union upon graduating from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in 2009.

“It was a lot of fun, and I learned a lot, which definitely prepared me for a life outside and the workforce,” the 27-year-old said of UNLV.

What are your responsibilities as branch manager?

I’m responsible for maintaining relationships with our members, supervising a staff of 11, helping members with personal financial services and ensuring that the well-being of our members is being taken care of everyday.

What does it mean to you to receive a promotion within America First Credit Union?

It’s been fantastic, and I’m honored to be given the opportunity to move up. They’ve been a wonderful support for me, and I look forward to helping support the credit union and the community as well.

What advice would you give someone who just set up a bank account for the first time?

I would advise them to ask as many questions as possible and to make sure that the person they’re working with is meeting all of their financial needs. People can be overwhelmed when they first start the process and I’d tell them to make sure they tell their story.

What are some of your hobbies?

I’m a big UNLV athletics fan. I also love taking my two dogs for a walk and hiking at Red Rock and Mount Charleston.

If you didn’t currently hold a position at America First Credit Union, what career would you see yourself doing instead?

When I was little, I was interested in law, but I definitely can’t see myself there anymore. This is my home.

Where is your favorite place to shop in Las Vegas and why?

I enjoy going to Fashion Show mall because it has a lot of different places to shop and eat. Also, it’s interesting to see Las Vegas as a whole there since it’s a gathering place for both tourists and locals. It’s a hot spot for everything.

If you could be anyone else for a day, who would it be and why?

I would be the president for a day just to see everything that happens on the back end, which we don’t normally see. I think it would be interesting.

If you had a friend visiting Las Vegas for the first time, where is the first place you would take them?

I would take them to a UNLV basketball game because the atmosphere is electric, it’s a ton of fun and it’s a really great place to see the community rally together. Vegas is home to people from all over, and it’s a place people can really get behind.

What’s it like being a Las Vegas native?

The best part about being a Las Vegas native is growing up in a really diverse environment. It’s been really interesting to grow up here and watch the city change.

Where do you see yourself in the future?

I see myself as a manger within the credit union, possible a market manager, training employees to move up within the company as well.
