Marathon race event draws new sponsor

The giant running race event that is coming to Las Vegas Nov. 12-15 has a new title sponsor and the event is now officially known as the "GEICO Rock 'n' Roll Las Vegas Marathon & ½ Marathon."

The GEICO title partnership in Las Vegas is for this year and a decision on the title sponsorship for Las Vegas next year will be made after this year's race, race spokesman Dan Cruz said Friday.

More than 45,000 runners in four different races are hitting the streets of Las Vegas. The 5K is Nov. 14 and the 10K, Half Marathon and Marathon events are Nov. 15. The half-marathon is one of the biggest in the country. Both of the marathon and half-marathon routes finish at the base of the Mirage Volcano on the Strip.

GEICO, founded in 1936, is the second-largest private passenger auto insurance company in the U.S.
