Marnell president stepping down to start up consulting company

Marnell Properties President Brad Schnepf is stepping down effective Jan. 1. He plans to launch a self-named real estate consulting company focused on business-to-business partnering.

Schnepf will still serve as an executive real estate adviser to Marnell Properties, and continue to occupy office space inside company headquarters at 222 Via Marnell Way in southwestern Las Vegas.

Schnepf is a longtime local real estate executive who is well known and highly regarded in industry circles. He served as the 2010 Nevada chapter president of NAIOP, a commercial real estate trade group. Schnepf plans to participate in the strategic real estate planning associated with the highly anticipated DesertXpress project.

"I'm looking at where the next segment of the economy will be," Schnepf said. "Deals aren't knocking on our door anymore."

Schnepf has overseen 1.3 million square feet of commercial development valleywide during his decade-long tenure with Marnell, including the $27 million, 200,928-square-foot air cargo complex that opened in the third quarter.

Marnell Properties was created in 2001 as a division of Marnell Corrao Associates Inc., the Las Vegas-based general contracting, design and consulting firm headed by Tony Marnell II, who is best known for building the Bellagio, Caesars Palace, Wynn Las Vegas and The Mirage, among other Strip properties.

David Simard, who joined Marnell Properties in June, will succeed Schnepf as president. Simard has been assuming company day-to-day business operations for the past several months. He will lead real estate development, acquisition and sales, entitlement and portfolio management in his role as president.
