Sin City Cupcakes partners hope alcohol-infused confections catch on locally

With cupcake names like the Russian Climax, Sexed in the City and Choco-mallow Intercourse, there could only be one proper name
for the business itself: Sin City Cupcakes.
Lisa Song-Sutton met her business partner Dannielle in 2008 as extras on USA’s spy drama “Burn Notice.” Song-Sutton was attending the University of Miami and modeling on the side. At the time, her biggest worry was that her partner on Burn Notice wasn’t a dud.
“Sometimes (the other models) are really cool and sometimes they’re a diva, and you have no choice in the matter,” Song-Sutton said.
Dannielle was the former.
After moving to town in 2010, Song-Sutton learned that Dannielle was making alcohol-infused cupcakes for her mom’s catering company back in South Florida. Song-Sutton immediately thought the product would be perfect for Las Vegas, and convinced Dannielle to move out West to take a chance on her creations.
“Las Vegas is a town people come to overindulge and overspend,” Song-Sutton said.
Sin City Cupcakes went operational in June, charging $5 per cupcake or $42 for a dozen. The pair’s business model is to bake fresh, and only make what’s being ordered.
“Because our cupcakes are alcohol-infused, we can’t donate unused product, so we decided this was the best model,” Song-Sutton said.
Tourists make up the bulk of their clientele, and they use social media to help spread the word.
“It’s been really a great marketing tool for us,” Song-Sutton said.
They frequent food festivals and conventions, and recently drove their Mercedes Benz cupcake truck into the Nightclub and Bar Convention, much to the crowd’s delight.
“People get really excited about the truck,” Song-Sutton said.
The pair also catered weddings and a Grammy after-party this year, and has been able to create custom cupcakes for corporate clients, such as the Red Dragon cupcake made for the events company of the same name.
“We’ve been really, really blessed,” Song-Sutton said.
Sin City Cupcakes also partners with local food trucks such as Fuku Burger to create special cupcakes, which also has brought them success.
“It’s nice to cultivate relationships in the community,” Song-Sutton said.
Moving forward, the duo plan to expand their baking capabilities by getting their own commercial kitchen. (They share now.) And, they’re actively negotiating concession agreements with major locations on the Strip.
