1 arrested at The Center in downtown Las Vegas after fight

One person was taken into custody at The Center in downtown Las Vegas late Friday after an employee activated a panic alarm.

Officers were called to the 401 S Maryland Parkway center — near the intersection of Lewis Avenue — when the alarm was activated about 8:45 p.m., Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Charles Jenkins said. The employee activated it during a fight between a man and two security guards.

Michael Domingo, chief executive officer of The Center, said someone who “has been troublesome before and had been trespassed from the property” came into the building and was being confrontational.

One security guard asked him to leave, then another guard also asked him to go. That’s when the man “turned on the security guards,” Domingo said.

At that point, an employee pressed the alarm.

The man was taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor battery. Jenkins said a medic responded, but the guards were not injured.

The Center serves as the Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada.
