1-year-old boy killed in Las Vegas hit-and-run crash identified

Updated October 22, 2017 - 3:54 pm

The 1-year-old boy killed in a hit-and-run crash Sunday night in the northeast valley has been identified.

He was Jaheim Heath of Las Vegas, Clark County spokesman Dan Kulin said. The cause of death was blunt force trauma, and his death was ruled an accident, Kulin said.

Police received a call about the incident at 6:43 p.m. Sunday at the Liberty Village Apartments, on the 4700 block of Sphinx Way, according to Lt. Grant Rogers of the Metropolitan Police Department. The driver fled in a blue four-door sedan.

Jaheim was playing in the street with other neighborhood children when the car hit him, Rogers said. His parents were unaware the baby was outside, Rogers said. Jaheim was taken to University Medical Center’s trauma unit and pronounced dead, Rogers said.

A GoFundMe campaign has been set up in his name. The campaign’s page said the 19-month-old boy had survived a liver transplant surgery.

Attempts to reach his family Friday were unsuccessful.
