75-year-old Fedora Bandit sentenced to prison

A 75-year-old Nevada bank robber known as the “Fedora Bandit” for the hat he wore in a string of seven robberies around Lake Tahoe and Northern California has been sentenced to nine years in prison.

David G. Osborne of Carson City was sentenced Friday after pleading guilty in U.S. District Court in Sacramento, Calif., in January to three counts of armed robbery.

Osborne also wore sunglasses, a fake mustache and goatee while brandishing a gun and demanding money during the holdups stretching over six months beginning in December 2009.

He admitted to robbing banks in Carson City, South Lake Tahoe, Kings Beach, Calif., and four other California cities .

Detectives found his DNA on an abandoned bicycle after he robbed the Paradise Bank in June 2010.
