94-year-old who died in crash identified

The 94-year-old man who died after three-vehicle collision Thursday afternoon has been identified as George W. Nicastro by the Clark County coroner’s office.

Nicastro was traveling north on Apple Drive just after noon when he lost control of his 2007 Chevrolet Impala, and entered the intersection at Charleston Boulevard on a red light.

The Impala was struck by a 1998 Chevrolet pickup that was traveling east. The collision sent both cars into the westbound lanes where the pickup hit a third vehicle, a 2012 Nissan Versa.

The pickup and Nicastro’s Impala stopped after hitting separate trees, police said.

Nicastro was taken to University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. The five victims in the other two vehicles suffered minor injuries, according to police.

Police are unsure whether Nicastro died from the collision or from a possible medical episode before the accident.

The cause of death will be released by the coroner’s office.
