Arizona woman arrested in alleged insulin slaying attempt on husband

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A Colorado City man awoke from his sleep to see his estranged wife hovering over him attempting to inject him with six needles full of insulin, according to the Town Marshal’s Office.

Susannah H. Bistline, 34, admitted she tried to kill her 40-year-old diabetic husband in the early morning of June 7, according to the office.

Bistline told officers that her “monster” husband had been abusive and that she spent a week planning to end the problem with a fatal injection. Deputy Mohave County Attorney Ken Skousen said investigators determined Bistline’s abuse allegations to be without merit.

Investigative reports stated that Bistline tried to execute her murder plot when four of six children were out of the home for the evening.

The man told officers his wife had recently returned from rehabilitation for alcohol abuse and that he was afraid something bad might happen, police said.

“He said that he was asleep and could sense something about to happen and he woke up to see Susannah with six shot-needles filled with insulin and trying to inject him,” an officer report stated. “He said she told him she wanted to kill him and make it look like he had an insulin reaction.”

Bistline and her husband told officers they wrestled on the floor for control of the needles and he was able to take them away and break them.

Bistline has pleaded not guilty to attempted murder and aggravated assault charges. She was being held in the Mohave County jail on $750,000 bond.

The Mohave County Legal Defender’s office was assigned to represent her Friday. Her next court hearing is July 11.
