Axe-wielding man held after chasing stranger in Las Vegas

A man who chased a stranger on a street with an ax before barricading himself in an apartment Thursday morning has been arrested, according to Las Vegas police.

Officer Laura Meltzer said the situation was resolved safely about 9 a.m., roughly two hours after a female victim called police to report the chase.

Meltzer said the victim had been walking near an apartment complex on Swenson Street when the man approached her. She said the woman was able to get away unscathed and call police from a safe location.

Officers who arrived on the scene found that the man had barricaded himself in a nearby apartment. Negotiators were called to the scene to try to make contact with the suspect.
