Bail set for teen accused of striking officer with vehicle

A judge set bail at $120,000 on Tuesday for a teenager charged with attempted murder in a hit-and-run crash that injured a Las Vegas police officer.

Jacob Groh, 18, of Henderson, also faces battery and traffic-related offenses tied to the Thursday night crash at the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Windmill Lane.

Groh said his family planned to hire a private lawyer before Las Vegas Justice of the Peace William Kephart set bail and temporarily assigned a public defender to Groh’s case.

Metro traffic officers were at the intersection directing traffic after a crash Thursday when they noticed a car speeding toward them.

Police said officers repeatedly told the driver of the car to stop. The vehicle stopped suddenly, as an officer told the driver to roll down his window. But the driver quickly accelerated, striking a second officer and dragging him a short distance, police said.

Two men headed west in the car on Windmill before it crashed into another car. The men got out and jumped a wall into the nearby neighborhood.

The car’s passenger, Aaron Miller, was arrested in the 8000 block of Aspendale, where officers said he gave them Groh’s name. Groh was arrested as he walked home, according to police reports.

Miller, 18, of Las Vegas, was charged with failing to give an officer information at an accident scene.

The injured officer, who was not identified, suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
