California man accused in attack on ‘The Duke of Fremont’ reindicted

A 33-year-old Californian accused of robbing and assaulting a professional poker player at a Primm resort in 2010 was reindicted by a grand jury last week after the Supreme Court tossed the first case.

Edmond Price won an appeal to the state's high court early this month after arguing that prosecutors failed to give him the opportunity to testify before the grand jury last year.

Prosecutors had received notice from Price's California attorney that he did not want to testify, but in separate letters to the Clark County district attorney's office, Price said he represented himself in the Nevada case and wanted to testify, court documents show.

Price did testify before the grand jury Thursday, records show. And again the grand jury indicted him.

Price faces eight felony charges, including first-degree kidnapping, attempted murder and robbery, in connection with a June 26, 2010, incident at Whiskey Pete's hotel in Primm. He faces 15 years to life in prison if convicted on all counts.

Price has maintained his innocence.

Ron "The Duke of Fremont" Wall was at Whiskey Pete's to buy gold and silver from a man he had dealt with before. Wall was carrying $137,000 in cash.

Authorities said Wall entered a hotel room to view the precious metals and was attacked by a man and a woman, who bludgeoned him with items in the room, including a toilet tank cover, a lamp and an iron. Wall also was stabbed.

Wall suffered several injuries in the attack. His ribs, cheek bones and nose were broken. Both of his hands had defensive stab wounds and were fractured. He suffered a concussion and several cuts to his head.

Price, of San Luis Obispo, Calif., was arrested on June 29, 2010, in California for outstanding warrants. He was extradited from California to Nevada earlier this month.

At the time of his arrest, Price was with Victoria Elizabeth Edelman, whom authorities described as his girlfriend.

Wall was able to pick both Price and Edelman out of photo lineups.

Edelman, 25, was indicted in August 2010 on similar charges.

Price is being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.

Meanwhile, a hearing is set for Friday to determine whether Price should be sent back to California where he is serving a sentence for a separate crime, which would delay the Nevada case.
