Car strikes, kills person in wheelchair

A person in a wheelchair was killed after being struck by a car in the north valley Thursday afternoon.

Las Vegas police received the call just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Balzar Avenue.

The person in the wheelchair died at the scene, according to police spokeswoman officer Laura Meltzer.

Meltzer said the southbound lanes of Martin Luther King would be “shut down for some time.”

It was not immediately known if the deceased, who has not been identified, was in a crosswalk when the crash happened.

The identity of the pedestrian will be released by the Clark County coroner’s office pending notification of next of kin.
