Driver flees scene after hitting police officer

A driver struck a Las Vegas police officer in the leg and fled the scene in the east valley Friday night.

The officer suffered minor injuries and was taken to University Medical Center as a precaution, Lt. David Jacoby said.

Police said the officer was off of his motorcycle and investigating an accident near Harmon Avenue and Mountain Vista Street when a vehicle struck him at 7:22 p.m.

The driver fled the scene and police found the vehicle crashed into an apartment complex fence about a mile north, near Indios Avenue and Mountain Vista.

Two people inside the vehicle were taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

Police are still investigating the incident and have not determined whether the driver will be charged, Jacoby said.
