Ex-pastor’s court hearing delayed in sex assault case

A claim of prosecutorial conflict delayed a court hearing Monday for a 55-year-old former pastor accused of sexually assaulting at least four girls in his Las Vegas-area congregation.

Former United Faith Church leader Otis Holland's public defender argued that because Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson previously represented Holland as a defense lawyer, a special prosecutor or the Nevada attorney general's office should handle the case.

Holland said nothing as he appeared Monday by closed-circuit video before a Las Vegas judge who postponed arraignment until July 12 to give a Henderson judge time to rule on the procedural question. That is expected July 9.

Wolfson, who was sworn in as district attorney in February, declined to comment Monday. Chief Deputy District Attorney Jim Sweetin has been handling the prosecution.
