Las Vegas attorney chosen to replace Leavitt as U.S. magistrate judge

Longtime Las Vegas attorney Vincent "Cam" Ferenbach has been selected to replace U.S. Magistrate Judge Lawrence Leavitt, who is retiring in October.

Ferenbach is a partner with Lionel Sawyer & Collins in Las Vegas, where he has worked since 1980. He recently concluded a one-year term as president of the State Bar of Nevada. He also served as president of the Clark County Bar Association in 2002.

He received his law degree from Arizona State University and his undergraduate degree from Princeton University.

The term of appointment for U.S. magistrate judges is eight years. Before beginning the job, Ferenbach must undergo investigations by the FBI and Internal Revenue Service. Those investigations are expected to take 10 to 12 weeks.

Leavitt was appointed to the bench in 1987. His retirement will take effect Oct. 7.
