Las Vegas motorcycle officer hurt in accident

A Las Vegas police motorcycle officer was hospitalized Wednesday after a crash on Summerlin Parkway.

Police said the accident happened about 1:40 p.m. on westbound Summerlin Parkway at Durango Drive. A small sedan struck the officer’s motorcycle.

According to Officer Jose Hernandez, the injured officer was alert and talking, and his injuries did not appear to be life threatening. He was taken to University Medical Center.

Officer Laura Meltzer said the accident caused delays on the westbound lanes of Summerlin Parkway and Durango Drive. The exit ramp and intersection at Durango and Summerlin Parkway reopened shortly before 6:30 p.m. according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.
