Las Vegas police Tase apparently suicidal man

Las Vegas police used a beanbag shotgun and a Taser on an apparently suicidal man who was wielding a knife Wednesday afternoon.

Police spokesman Jose Hernandez said that at 1:37 p.m. police were called to the 1500 block of East Fremont Street, near Bruce Street, on a report of a man who had stabbed himself in the stomach.

Upon arrival, Hernandez said the 44-year-old man was holding a knife.

Police used a beanbag shotgun and a Taser to subdue him, Hernandez said.

He didn't know how often each weapon was used, or if the man threatened to stab himself or police with the knife.

Hernandez said the man was taken to University Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. The extent of those injuries wasn't immediately known.
