Las Vegas tour bus driver cited in Arizona floodwater accident

A tour bus driver from Las Vegas has been cited for trying to cross a wash flooded by a severe thunderstorm in northwest Arizona, according to the Mohave County Sheriff.

The commercial tour bus owned and operated by C.H. Destinations was swept some 300 yards by the raging floodwater July 28.

The driver, Joseph H. Razon, and 32 passengers safely exited the bus after it tipped on its side. The party was attempting to return to Las Vegas following an excursion to the Skywalk at Grand Canyon West.

“He made a bad decision and jeopardized the safety and lives of his passengers and emergency responders who dealt with the situation,” Sheriff Tom Sheahan said.

Razon was cited for misdemeanor reckless driving.

Sheahan said a conviction can bring up to four months in jail and a fine of up to $750. He said a conviction also could lead to the recovery of public safety costs associated with the rescue under Arizona’s “Stupid Motorist Law.”
