Man arrested after standoff with North Las Vegas police

A 28-year-old man was arrested on multiple charges after a six-hour standoff in which he fired a gun more than once, North Las Vegas police said.

Dustin Kent was booked into the Las Vegas jail on two counts of domestic battery, two counts of battery and one count of aiming or discharging a firearm where a person can be endangered.

An official with Nellis Air Force Base Sunday afternoon confirmed Kent holds the rank of staff sergeant on the base.

Police said at 3:30 a.m. officers responded to a home in the 2100 block of Pipeline Beach Court, near Tropical Parkway and Losee Road, on a domestic battery report.

Police said Kent fired a handgun from the front door and retreated into the house where he fired additional shots.

After several hours, SWAT officers entered his home and arrested Kent.

Police said before the standoff, Kent argued with his 24-year-old wife. Kent then struck her and pushed her to ground as he pulled his 7-month-old baby from his wife’s arms, police said.

Two friends arrived at the home to assist Kent’s wife. Kent attacked them too, police said. Kent’s wife, their child and the friends were able to evacuate the home. The child and Kent’s wife sustained minor injuries, police said.
