Man arrested in shooting that wounded two men

A man is facing two charges of attempted murder after police said he shot two men in North Las Vegas last week.

John Baptist Obote, 24, got into an argument with Anthony Eagles and Jerome Jackson in the early hours of Sept. 17 before shooting both of them, police said.

Jackson was shot in the left shoulder and drove himself to Valley hospital where he was later transported to University Medical Center.

Obote said he came over to his sister’s house at 1100 Weaver Avenue near Owens Avenue and H Street because she was arguing with her boyfriend, Eddie Young. When Obote arrived, Young left but returned with his brother, Jackson, and a group of men.

The men were armed with baseball bats and were threatening to fight Obote and his brothers, according to a police statement. Obote said when one of the men revealed a pistol, he got his revolver and fired two shots, according to police.

Obote fled the scene and boarded a city bus.

He was arrested Tuesday and is being charged with two counts of attempted murder, battery with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and prohibited possession of a firearm.
