Man dies after fight leads to shooting

A man faces murder charges after police said he shot a man during an altercation in the south part of the valley late Thursday evening.

When police arrived about 11:30 p.m. to the 1400 block of Amitola Avenue, near Wigwam Avenue and the Las Vegas Beltway, officers found Troy Martinez standing outside of his house holding what they believe was a handgun.

Martinez, 32, went back inside and came out shortly afterward and surrendered.

When police searched the house, officers found a man on the floor of the master bedroom with gunshot wounds. A woman and two small children were also inside but were unharmed.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police believe he was visiting Martinez when the two got into an altercation and Martinez shot him.

The identity of the victim has not been released.

Martinez was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center.
