Mendoza teacher’s aide faces charges for threats against principal

A Mendoza Elementary School teacher's aide faces criminal charges for telling the school principal: "You're going to make me go postal," according to a Clark County School District police report obtained Tuesday.

Carmen Cozart, 43, was arrested Friday at Mendoza, 2000 S. Sloan Lane near Sahara Avenue, on a misdemeanor charge of threatening to cause bodily harm.

According to the report, on June 22, Cozart called for a meeting with Principal Brenton Lago. Lago told police Cozart told him, "I'm going to write more letters about you," and "I dug stuff up on you that I haven't used yet against you."

The report said Lago felt concerned about his personal safety because of Cozart's comments. The report added that another school employee witnessed the conversation, and although she couldn't hear everything Cozart said, she told investigators, "she sounded like she was about to fight or do something to him."

When Cozart spoke with district police, she told them she did not threaten Lago. She said she suspected Lago had "little man syndrome, and that her size intimidated him."

Cozart has been with the district since 2004, and Mendoza since 2009. She was employed with the school system Tuesday afternoon.
