Mom offers reward in son’s death in 2009 fatal hit-and-run

Tracy Rogers would like justice for her son while she is around to see it.

Her son, Vance Lee Rogers, was killed in a hit-and-run two years ago.

Tracy Rogers, 79, is offering $2,500 for any information leading to an arrest and conviction. "I would like to see justice before God calls me," she said.

Vance Rogers, 40, was killed Sept. 12, 2009, while walking north on Boulder Highway near Dalhart Avenue, south of Sahara Avenue.

Police said the only witness saw a dark-colored car strike the man at a high rate of speed. A shoe went flying over the head of the witness, police said. The car stopped briefly, then sped off.

The witness could not supply information on the vehicle's license plate or identify the type of car, police said. A security camera from an apartment complex also couldn't provide that information.

Rogers had been walking home from a bar and was jaywalking, police said.

The investigation was suspended about a month after Rogers' death because police had few leads. Anyone with information on the hit-and-run is asked to call the Las Vegas police fatal detail at 828-3535 or, to remain anonymous, call CrimeStoppers at 385-5555.
