Motorist killed in southwest valley collision identified

A woman who died in a two-car collision in the southwest valley Tuesday afternoon was identified as 84-year-old Katherine Shaker, the Nevada Highway Patrol said Wednesday.

Shaker was a Las Vegas resident. The crash happened at 12:42 p.m.

Shaker was driving a 2000 Honda CR-V north on West Raphael Rivera Way, approaching the intersection with Sunset Road.

A white Lexus RX350 was traveling east on Sunset Road, approaching the same intersection.

The Highway Patrol said the Honda entered the intersection on a red light. The Lexus entered the intersection on a green light. The front of the Lexus struck the left side of the Honda. The Honda overturned. The left side of the Lexus then struck a traffic signal pole and caught fire.

The driver of the Lexus was transported to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center by ambulance with moderate injuries.

Shaker died at the scene.
