Nevada sets up hotline to fight government waste
July 23, 2013 - 9:25 am
CARSON CITY — Nevada has set up a hotline to combat fraud, waste and abuse of taxpayer money.
A memo distributed Monday by the Department of Administration urges state employees and contractors to report inappropriate use of state or federal funds by calling the fraud hotline.
Employees are being urged to watch for instances where proper procedures aren’t followed; irregular work hours; and employees who don’t appropriately account for leave on time sheets.
Other red-flags include excessive travel inconsistent with job duties; incomplete documentation when seeking reimbursement for supplies or travel claims; and unusual purchases not included in an agency’s approved budget.
Flyers advertising the hotline are to be displayed at all agency offices as required under Assembly Bill 327 approved by the 2013 Legislature.
The hotline number is 775-687-0150.
