North Las Vegas man arrested in wife’s death

A North Las Vegas man accused of beating his wife to death was arrested in California on Tuesday.

Anthony Mayo, 37, was arrested by authorities about 9:30 a.m. at a home in Mojave City on charges of murder, coercion and domestic battery in the death of his wife, Beverly McFarlane.

Mayo is at the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department jail awaiting extradition to Las Vegas.

Police said Mayo attacked McFarlane, 40, on Aug. 8 at their home in the 4300 block of Matinee Avenue, near Decatur Boulevard and Washburn Road.

Officers were not notified of the attack until Aug. 10. Responding officers found the woman suffering from injuries to her head, neck and abdomen. She was taken to University Medical Center, but died on Aug. 23.

Two girls, ages 5 and 9, were reportedly home when McFarlane was beaten. Clark County Child Protective Services removed the children from the home.
