Officer wounded in North Las Vegas shooting; suspect in custody

A North Las Vegas officer was wounded by a shotgun blast Monday night in the 6300 block of Silver Edge Court, near Centennial Parkway and Clayton Street, North Las Vegas police said.

The officer suffered a "serious gunshot wound from a shotgun," North Las Vegas police Sgt. Timothy Bedwell said.

The injured officer was taken to University Medical Center. Bedwell said his condition was serious, but the injuries were not life-threatening.

Police were responding to a domestic disturbance call. The adult male suspect fired on officers without any warning, Bedwell said. The man was taken into custody. Alcohol may have been involved.

Bedwell said he thought that officers on the scene may have returned fire as they rescued the officer who had been shot. The suspect was not injured.

"We get these every day," Bedwell said of the domestic disturbance call. "You never know when something like this is going to happen."

No other details were available late Monday.
