One shot to death, one wounded outside Las Vegas party

A man was shot to death in the south valley early Saturday morning in what appeared to be the result of an argument at a late-night party that spilled into the street.

Las Vegas police did not immediately release the name of the man who was shot at 1:30 a.m. outside an apartment complex in the 1400 block of East Reno Avenue, near East Tropicana Avenue and South Maryland Parkway.

When officers responded to the reports of numerous shots fired, they found the man dead of a gunshot wound.

Another man also was found shot, but his injuries were described as not life-threatening and he was taken to Sunrise Hospital and Medical Center.

A preliminary investigation by homicide detectives determined the two victims were attending a party in the apartment when a fight broke out.

Party-goers fled the apartment complex as they heard the shots, according to police reports.

No suspects had been named as of Saturday afternoon. Police said the shootings were under investigation.

The identity of the dead man will be released by the Clark County coroner's office as soon as next of kin are notified.

At the apartment complex, Sage Point Apartments, Assistant Manager Edwin Reyoso, who also lives in one of the units and heard the gunshots, said the apartment, No. 21, has since been boarded up by police.

"Last week, police were called out here three times," said Reynosa, who said he's beginning to get scared about living there. "It used to be a quiet place, but all of a sudden there's been problems."

He said the late-night parties have a lot of the residents on edge, but he hopes now that the apartment has been boarded up and the entire complex is on the police radar, there will be fewer crimes .
