Orleans casino robber pleads guilty
A man who robbed at gunpoint a casino cashier at The Orleans of $40,000 and stole two vehicles last year has agreed to plead guilty as a habitual offender.
As part of the agreement, Michael Patrick Dorotiak, 30, will plead guilty Sept. 8 in District Court to three counts of armed robbery and one count each of kidnapping and being an ex-felon in possession of a firearm.
As part of the deal, prosecutors will recommend Dorotiak be sentenced to 10 to 25 years in prison.
On July 19, 2010, Dorotiak carjacked a white Ford Expedition at a gas station near Flamingo and Lindell roads at 6:23 a.m.
He then drove to The Orleans, where he pointed a handgun at a cashier and took about $40,000, prosecutor Roy Nelson said.
Dorotiak fled to the parking lot, where he was unable to find the Ford Expedition, and carjacked another vehicle, a red pickup.
He crashed the pickup in the parking lot, then fled on foot, running north before disappearing over a wall into a mobile home park, where he was arrested.
No one was injured in the incident.
Authorities said Dorotiak committed the robbery because he needed bail money for his girlfriend.
Dorotiak is being held on $200,000 bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
