Police investigate meth lab, grow house

Las Vegas police were investigating two separate drug busts Monday that involved a methamphetamine lab and marijuana grow house.

Lt. Hans Walters said the first bust occurred at 12:46 p.m. at a residence on the 4100 block of Las Lomas Avenue, near Valley View and Oakey boulevards. Walters said police were notified that a resident wanted to commit suicide. When investigators went to the home to conduct a welfare check, they discovered a marijuana grow house operation.

Walters said one man was taken into custody. There were at least 320 small plants in the home, Walters said. He did not know the value of the plants.

The second bust occurred at 1:49 p.m. at a Budget Suites, 8400 Las Vegas Blvd. S., near Interstate 15 and state Route 160.

Walters said a bail bondsman called police when he realized the person he was looking for was cooking methamphetamine. Walters said the meth lab was very small and its contents could fit into a “single box or suitcase.”

He said it’s not unheard of for people to cook methamphetamine in locations such as a Budget Suites, where people can pay daily or monthly rates to occupy rooms. One man was taken into custody.

The identities of the two men detained by police were not released. Walters said investigators with the Metropolitan Police Department’s Narcotics Section were at both scenes at 6 p.m.
