Police make two arrests in gang-related shooting

Two men have been arrested in last week's gang-related shooting of a 22-year-old North Las Vegas man, according to Las Vegas police.

Deandre Turbin, who was shot in the head Jan. 18, remained on life support Friday at University Medical Center.

Christopher B. Berry ll, 19, and Antonio M. Castillo, 21, were arrested Wednesday night as they tried to escape from a house in the 2600 block of Jarbridge Avenue, near Washington Avenue and Christy Lane.

The suspects are known members of the 004 Hoodsmen, and Turbin belongs to the Westlane Gangster Crips, according to police reports. The motive for the shooting appears to stem from a fight earlier in the day when one gang member argued with another over dating his 16-year-old sister. The suspects remain in the Clark County Detention Center on attempted murder charges. Police are looking for two other suspects in the shooting, which occurred outside the Cape Cod apartment complex near East Owens Avenue and North Lamb Boulevard.

According to police reports, Turbin and his brother were walking home about 10 p.m. when the shooting occurred. A bystander, identified as Celester Lamar Watkins, 41, was shot in the right shoulder.
