Police seek public’s help in October slaying of 83-year-old man

Las Vegas police are seeking the public's help in the slaying of an 83-year-old man more than six months ago in the northeast valley.

Police said Tuesday that at 7:45 p.m. on Oct. 19, they responded to a shopping center at 3262 Las Vegas Blvd. N., near Pecos Road, and found George Moreland lying on the ground near an ATM.

They said Moreland had been approached by two men, who punched him in the head and knocked him to the ground. One of the men took $20 Moreland had just withdrawn. Moreland was trying to get into his car at the time, police said.

Moreland died at a hospital. The Clark County coroner determined he had been killed in a homicide.

Police said the first suspect is a black male between the ages of 20 and 30 and about 5 feet 5 inches tall. He had short hair and was wearing a tan shirt. Police did not provide a detailed description of the second suspect.

Anyone with information about the slaying is urged to call the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Section at 828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.
