Second man dies from injuries in Flamingo carjacking incident

The second man thrown from the bed of a truck after it was stolen from a Strip valet area on Sunday has died.

Felix Brandon Cruz III, 31, died from his injuries at 6:22 p.m. Monday at University Medical Center, according to the Clark County coroner’s office.

Cruz, and his brother-in-law Jesus Magdaleno Jr., 33, were loading luggage in the bed of a pickup Sunday morning when James Robert Montgomery, 29, stole it from the valet area of the Flamingo Las Vegas, police said.

Montgomery ran through three red lights heading westbound on Flamingo Road before crashing into an SUV near Valley View Boulevard, according to Las Vegas police.

Magdaleno and Cruz were thrown from the bed of the truck.

Magdaleno, an officer with the California Highway Patrol, died at the scene.

Both men, from Visalia, Calif, were in Las Vegas to celebrate Magdaleno’s bachelor party for his upcoming September wedding.

Montgomery was arrested on charges of murder, kidnapping, robbery, battery with substantial bodily harm and grand larceny auto.

No formal charges have been filed.
