Teen says she was coerced into having sex with ROTC adviser

A 17-year-old girl told police she was coerced into having sex with a school ROTC adviser who she thought could help her military career.

The teenager began having sex with Sunrise Mountain High School employee Lt. Colonel Douglas Young, 49, between October and April, according to Young's Las Vegas police arrest report.

Young was arrested Wednesday on felony charges of sexual misconduct with a student.

The girl told police she had sex with Young because of his connections in the Air Force, the report said.

"He (Young) would explain to her that females must use their sexuality to advance in the military," the report said. "Young explained it was common and normal, and something that she will have to accept if she wants to advance in her military career."

Young is alleged to have given the girl "hush money" after having sex, and he sometimes took her shopping.

"The student knew it was wrong, but she figured at least she was getting something out of having sex with him," the report said.

The teenager was able to correctly describe Young's home to police, including the red couch where she said they had sex and the nightstand where he kept his condoms and lubricant.

She decided to disclose the relationship after being confronted by school staff and realizing that Young could not help her military career.
