Thieves targeting hikers’ cars at Lake Mead

Visitors at Lake Mead National Recreation Area have been advised to secure their valuables before hiking.

In the past 30 days, park rangers report six vehicle break-ins at the Gold Strike Canyon Trailhead parking lot, two miles west of the Hoover Dam off U.S. Highway 93 in Boulder City.

There have been other break-ins: two at the White Rock Canyon Trailhead parking lot, one at the Alan Bible Visitor Center parking lot, and one at Kingman Wash.

Purses and wallets have been the main target of this burglary spree.

Extra patrols have been scheduled in the areas. Anyone who witnesses suspicious activity or has information related to these incidents should call 702-293-8998.
