Three clerks in Henderson cited in weekend alcohol sting

Police report all but three of the Henderson businesses they checked in a weekend sting kept alcohol out of the hands of minors.

Henderson police spokesman Keith Paul said officers worked with underage volunteers to stage the drinking law compliance checks Saturday.

Out of the 89 convenience stores, grocery stores and liquor stores they visited, three sold alcohol to minors.

Clerks who sold alcohol were cited and face up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine.

Paul says owners of businesses that fail the test a second or third time can also be ticketed and could lose their business licenses.

Funds for the checks come through a federal Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws grant.
