Trademark infringement charge denied by credit union

Nevada Federal Credit Union denied Thursday claims of copyright and trademark infringement made in a lawsuit filed in district court in Minnesota.

The Las Vegas-based credit union was sued Monday by ChartHouse International Learning Corp. The Burnsville, Minn., company sells books and films about its "Fish! Philosophy," described as motivational teachings for businesses and individuals.

Nevada Federal Credit Union and an official there, James Vanderlip, are accused in the 22-page complaint of purchasing an authorized copy of a FISH! Film for $908 in August 2007 and then making and selling unauthorized copies of the DVD.

"We are aware of the lawsuit," Greg Barnes, senior vice president of NFCU, said in a statement issued Thursday. "We adamantly deny the accusations and have retained appropriate legal counsel for our defense."

Barnes said Nevada Federal "does not, has not, nor ever will knowingly violate trademark or copyright laws, period."
