Two found dead in suspected murder-suicide in northwest Arizona

KINGMAN, Ariz. — A possible murder-suicide is under investigation in the northwest Arizona community of Mohave Valley, about 115 miles south of Las Vegas.

Sheriff’s deputies responded to a home in the 1600 block of East Ironwood Drive at 8:41 p.m. Monday after receiving several calls suggesting that a man had shot his wife and planned to shoot himself, Mohave County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Trish Carter said.

Carter said they located the bodies of the married couple inside their home. The body of Valerie A. Corti-Phillips, 56, was found in a bathroom with multiple gunshots to her head.

The body of John Terry Phillips, who died of a single gunshot to the head, was in a bedroom. A handgun was recovered from the scene.

Carter said there was no indication of any significant domestic violence history. Deputies responded to their home in April 2012 when the woman asked for help during an argument with her husband.
