Two men indicted for Nov. 18 slaying

Two Las Vegas men have been indicted by a Clark County grand jury in the Nov. 18 slaying of a man at an extended stay hotel in the south valley.

Indictments against Travon Miles, 32, and Donald Taylor, 28, were handed down Friday in the shooting death of Michael Phelan, 32

Miles and Taylor each face four felony counts: murder with a deadly weapon, robbery with a deadly weapon, conspiracy to commit robbery and burglary with a deadly weapon.

According to a Las Vegas police report, Phelan dropped off his girlfriend's 4-year-old son at the Emerald Suites, 9145 Las Vegas Blvd. South, when he invited two men into one of the apartments about 2:30 p.m.

The report says a witness saw Phelan attempt a drug deal with the two men. Phelan was taking out a bag of marijuana when the two men drew guns, the witness said. Phelan tried to draw a weapon, and gunfire erupted.

A Jan. 24 arraignment was scheduled for Miles and Taylor.

Both men are being held without bail at the Clark County Detention Center.
