Vegas sex offender arrested on border

A convicted sex offender from Las Vegas has been arrested in southern New Mexico near the border for having fraudulent immigration documents.

The Las Cruces Sun-News in Las Cruces, N.M., reported Friday that Alfredo C. Labrada-Gomez, a Cuban national in his 50s, was caught by Las Cruces-area Border Patrol agents conducting a routine immigration bus check.

According to the Border Patrol, agents checking passengers Thursday saw Labrada-Gomez had a permanent resident card that was missing some embedded security features.

Agents discovered Labrada-Gomez was convicted of lewdness with a minor under 14 in Las Vegas in 2010.

Court records show he also had convictions for attempted murder, battery and felony firearm possession in 2003. He was arrested in 2001 for domestic violence and battery and for selling cocaine in 1999.

Labrada-Gomez is being held in the Otero County Prison Facility and will be prosecuted for immigration-related offenses.
