Wengert teacher arrested in alleged kidnapping, child abuse

A Clark County School District teacher was arrested Friday and faces kidnapping and other charges.

Melvyn Sprowson, 44, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on Friday, according to school district police Capt. Ken Young.

Sprowson faces charges of kidnapping, child neglect or abuse, making false statements to police, and contributing to the delinquency or negligence of a minor.

Sprowson was listed a kindergarten teacher at Wengert Elementary School, located near Sahara Avenue and Nellis Boulevard, according to the school’s website.

Young said more information would become available on the case Monday.

School district officials referred all inquiries to the school district’s police department.

Sprowson’s preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 6.
